Frequently Asked Questions

How large are the storage units?

Current units are 35 gallons, large enough to store most if not all possessions.

Are the storage units secure?

We use industry standard storage units and the highest-rated locks on the market, so they provide strong deterrence from theft but no storage unit is 100% secure. As such, we strongly recommend that our clients keep their valuables like ID's and irreplaceable personal items with them, or lock them in an indoor facility, keep them with trusted friends or family, etc.

What if an imby volunteer no longer wishes to participate?

iMBY volunteers are under no obligations and can discontinue their participation anytime. Should a volunteer no longer wish to participate, we will make every effort to mitigate any inconvenience to our clients by providing alternate iMBY storage options, if available.

What if a storage unit, or possessions within them, are stolen? Who is responsible?

Clients will be required to sign a waiver absolving either the volunteers or iMBY of any responsibility should theft occur. We understand that theft is always traumatic, and even more so for our vulnerable brothers and sisters on the streets. As such, iMBY will do all we can to help someone replace their essential items like toiletries, clothing, etc. in the unlikely and unfortunate event that an iMBY storage unit gets stolen or broke into.

Has this idea ever been tried before? How do you know it will work?

Yes! The founder of iMBY provided storage for an unhoused friend for over a year, until he found employment and permanent housing. The system worked like a charm…read more about the origins of imby in Our Story.

Does this service cost anything to the unhoused?

Of course not.

Is iMBY a 501c3?

Yes.
